<p>Let me ask you something. What do you think would happen if tomorrow morning God decided to play a little trick on us, and all of a sudden squares would start fitting into triangle holes and no longer fit into square holes?</p>
<p>Think about this for a moment. Our entire lives, we locked our thinking mind around the thought that squares only fit into square holes and then on a moment&#8217;s notice it no longer becomes the case.</p>
<p>Instead of just accepting it, our critical faculties would literally be coming up with all kinds of ideas as to why the square must fit</p>
<p>We&#8217;d be in utter disbelief.</p>
<p>In fact many of us, even if we had that old game we played as a child in front of us that now shows squares fitting into triangle holes would not believe it with our own eyes. We would be fighting to cram sqaure objects into square holes. It would literally rock us off of our seats and we&#8217;d be left in complete and utter shock, because what was once familiar has now changed. What was once secure for us, we must now re-learn.</p>
<p>Think about the amount of energy it would take for you to finally accept that squares now fit into triangle holes.</p>
<p>Some of you reading this right now may even feel a little uneasy just at the thought of this happening.</p>
<p>Why?</p>
<p>Because just the thought of change can be very scary. Just the thought of leaving what was once so familiar can make you feel insecure.</p>
<p>But let&#8217;s remember as the old  saying goes &#8220;the only thing constant in this world is change.&#8221;</p>

<p>Sure there will be some genetic dispositions that some are born with. As an ex: Downs syndrome. And there are probably others that are laying dormant but waiting in the wings to become fully realized: Ex: Heart disease and cancer.</p>
<p>Either way, IMO, our jobs as hypnotherapists and healers isn’t to necessarily cure them. Let’s leave that up to the doctors.</p>
<p>Am I saying that it isn’t possible to heal them past genetic dispositions with hypnosis or natural means? Come on, who do you think is writing this post ;). Of course it’s possible.</p>
<p>As I get more into the trenches with my clients and have more clarity of myself, my life and my purpose … I realize that the greatest gift I can give me or my clients is a sense of peace and balance. I know, those are my buzz words lately if you’ve been following me and my postings on here, my blogs and facebook. But I think I’ve gotten here as a result of the momentum I’ve created from so desperately wanting to heal myself and my client’s “genetic dispositions” …. and regression hypnosis, in particular, has been a huge part of helping me cleanse and clear so that I can obtain more clarity for who I am.</p>
<p>Ok, I digress… back to the topic at hand.</p>
<p>So again, I’m not saying one can not heal past genetic dispositions (GP), they can. In fact, for many of us, it’s a must on our way to spiritual clarity. But for some of us, the acceptance of the GP is all the healing we need… and this alone can take away the stress and strife of the GP and help a person live a more “healed” life.</p>
<p>So, just what is Matt rambling on and on about today.. LOL</p>
<p>As “natural” healers, If we make healing the disease or healing the GP our main focus, we will lose touch of the human aspect of our clients.</p>
<p>But if you make healing the person, and help him/her to obtain clarity and peace through hypnosis regression (or whatever means you choose), we work from our hearts and an exchange of compassion and soulful connection is experienced between client and practitioner. THIS IS AMAZINGLY HEALING!&#8230; this, coupled with hypnotic regression and hypnosis concepts can help the people that come to you, obtain clarity on his/her own which many times can lead to healing the GP or illness. And even if the GP or illness isn’t healed, you stand a great chance of simply helping the person obtain more peace for whatever they may need to move through. That is healing.</p>

<p>Thank the sweet lord for the recent revival of the positive thinking and law of attraction movements that have swept through our consciousness in the last few years in the form of books, audio and video programs, and workshops.</p>
<p>And positive thinking should be the Ideal, shouldn’t it?</p>
<p>Well, yes and no.</p>
<p>Yes, because it makes us feel good and temporarily gets us out of misery… if even for a short time.  And anything that can break that cycle of misery surely has to have a positive effect, true?</p>
<p>You know about a year back I wrote an article for a popular news-based website where I discussed some backlash stemming from the dvd “The Secret.”  At the time, even I had gotten swept up in the enthusiasm that this dvd created.</p>
<p>However, I intuitively sensed that the principles espoused in The Secret would lead to what is called an “upper limits problem”  An upper limits problem refers to the idea that we all have an unconscious limit to how much positive energy we can handle coming into our lives. And when life gives us more positive energy than we can handle, we will unconsciously sabotage things to bring the energy back down to our comfort zone.  For some folks love and intimacy are big dosages of positive energy; just when a relationship is going well, a fight might break out so as to limit the energy. Or right before a romantic vacation, one of the partners might get sick, and in this way dampen the effect of the positive energy that would have been generated on the vacation. Other forms of positive energy that people experience might include financial success or stability, or good health, or happiness. When I’ve done hypnotic regression work with my clients, what I’ve noticed is that as we reach the upper limits of good energy, another unconscious part of us goes, “uh oh, when’s the other shoe going to drop?”.</p>
<p>I had a fair amount of experience dealing with the upper limits of good energy problem in my practice, and was even compelled to discuss it while being interviewed for a popular internet podcast a few years back.  However, it’s not until recently that I truly understood the effects of the backlash.</p>
<p>Well, I think the other shoe is starting to drop.  So many followers of The Secret and the Law of Attraction are starting to experience a huge backlash of anxiety, doubt, frustration, desperation and even depression.  They are left wondering “Why isn’t this working for me?”</p>
<p>Just take a quick glance at our current global economic crisis and it becomes easy to see that despite the wave of positive thinking created by these ideologies, we are in dire straits, and perhaps more unhappy than ever before, despite all of our positive thinking. So just what happened anyhow?</p>
<p>As much as I love these ideologies I think they have a particular flaw.  Their main idea is that in order to manifest what you want, you have to be connected to something called “source” energy.  Well, being a spiritual guy, that’s not too far of a stretch for me.  However, then they tell us that source energy is on the side of joy.  Mmmm… ok, this is where I start to fall off just a bit.</p>
<p>I like to think of it this way:</p>
<p>Let’s imagine a person (maybe even yourself) who is experiencing peace and feels in balance right at this moment.  I don’t necessarily mean joyful, rather peaceful with a sense of harmony knowing that he/she is right where they need to be.  This sensation is what I like to refer to as being centered. And it has a distinct body-level feel to it.</p>
<p>So with that being said, imagine a graph with a horizontal line, and then a vertical line dissecting the horizontal line right down the middle.  In the middle is our center: our balance and peace (peace actually pervades the whole graph but another topic for another time.)</p>
<p>To the left of the vertical line we have a gradation of what can be termed “negative” feelings… from frustration to fear, etc…  On the right we have a gradation of positive feelings from happiness to excited joy… etc.</p>
<p>Well, these positive thinking philosophies tell us that we are closest to source energy when we are on the right side of this graph – excited joy. Let’s reexamine this position to see if its necessarily true.</p>
<p>I would suggest to you that source energy is not on the right side of the graph, but actually in the middle where we have peace and balance.  Have you noticed it’s easiest for us to manifest things that we are not as deeply attached to?   When we are in the middle, we are more at peace with (and thus less attached to) those manifestations on the far right of the graph - peace.  Thus we are not “clinging” or “wanting” to a degree that pulls us out of our center.</p>
<p>Now, I’m not saying you can’t manifest your desires from joy, because I know you have manifested from that energy before.  However, if you think of it you’ve also manifested some desires from the other side of the spectrum. You’ve manifested from Fear which is on the left side of the graph. For some of us, fear has been the driving force to reach goals.</p>
<p>But the things you manifested when you were in a state of peace or a simple “okayness” required much less energy and anxiety then manifestations made from the states of joy and fear.  It’s those that you attracted from a state of peace and balance that “seemed so easy.”</p>
<p>Moreover, some of you may have learned from certain spiritual self-help philosophies that you should imagine what you want, but then let it go and don’t think about it again.</p>
<p>Now, I don’t know about you but this bothered the hek out of me as I was so excited about manifesting what I wanted that I couldn’t stop thinking about it!  And this made me feel bad ’cause these philosophies told me to forget about it! Not to mention how dismayed I would get if it didn’t come right away or even at all!  But I stuck with it and found other ways to create excitement, only to fall back into this pattern again and again - something I found common place with  people who attended a plethora of manifestation meetings on a weekly basis, as they tried in all earnest, to sustain these “good feelings.”</p>
<p>However, imagine, if you could experience the sensation of joy in your manifestations, I mean fully experience joy but then after experiencing it, you returned to a peaceful state where you could release your attachment to the outcome (as opposed to just forgetting about what you imagined) and even move into a sense of assured calm and centeredness when you think of your manifestation?  Thus, keeping resistance to a minimum!</p>
<p>Let me give you an example:</p>
<p>I remember one of the most exhilarating events of my life was when I was younger and I hit my first 2 homeruns in little league. I actually dreamt about it the night before! But when I came to the park, after having experienced the excitement in my dream, I was very at peace with the idea of hitting 2 homeruns. I was going around telling my teammates, in a very calm and serene manner, that I would hit two homeruns, one off Joey Speakes and one off Greg Nealon… and sure enough… whammo – my first homerun ever in the first inning against Joey Speakes and in the 6th inning another homerun off of Greg Nealon.</p>
<p>More so, I found out the next day that the coach had given the sign to Greg and his catcher that Greg was not suppose to throw any pitches across the plate.  Rather he was suppose to walk me!</p>
<p>In retrospect, if I would have came into that game clinging on to the excitement and telling everyone “I’M GOING TO HIT 2 HOMERUNS TODAY.. I DREAMT IT,” then quite possibly it may have taken me out of the center and I would have tensed up from all the excitement and not accomplish what I had dreamed of  the night before.</p>
<p>This is what happens to a lot of us, we cling on to the excitement which shoots down our rocket of desire.</p>
<p>Now, keep this in mind as you continue to read - it’s the center we want to be in when thinking about our manifestations.</p>
<p>You see sensations to the left or right of peace are meant to be experienced and then let go of.  They are simply guidelines as to where one may want to focus a life of peace.  They aren’t meant to be held on to.  And that’s one of the greatest problems we have faced, hitherto, in creating our manifestations.</p>
<p>Please remember that I’m not saying you shouldn’t experience either side of the spectrum.  In fact, I’m saying the opposite - FULLY EXPERIENCE THEM!  But don’t cling on to either side!</p>
<p>As I am fond of saying “Wanting may create rockets of desire, but clinging will fire off SCUD missles to knock them down!”</p>
<p>Consider what happens when you’re on the left side of the spectrum: Fear.  What happens to your body?  Adrenalin rushes through, blood pressure rises, pulse rises… etc.</p>
<p>Now think about what happens on the right side of the spectrum: excited joy.  What happens to your body?  Adrenalin rushes through, blood pressure rises, pulse rises… etc.</p>
<p>Notice what either the sense of joy or the sense of fear does to your body.  It pulls you out of homeostatsis. It pulls you out of center.  Imagine trying to sustain either side of the spectrum indefinitely.  Physically, it will wear out your body and mentally/emotionally it will “pendulum” your feelings back and forth from fear at one end of the spectrum, to excited joy at the other end, barely giving you any time to just sit and experience balance, peace and most of all CLARITY.</p>
<p>You see, this universe runs on the idea of balance.  Once something is tilted one way it then has to tilt the other way in order to recalibrate; and if doesn’t find a way to slow down toward the middle, disasters have a greater potential for occuring.</p>
<p>We tend to think that it’s the left side of the spectrum that holds us back, but please understand it’s the right side of the spectrum that has equally, and at times even more so, held us back from fully experiencing a life of peace, balance, and harmony while attaining goals that make us truly happy and content.  It’s the right side of the spectrum where a lot of today’s philosophies say you must “vibrate” with constantly to achieve what you wish.  But listen to your body!  You can not sustain either side without having some kind of extreme recalibration back and forth, or some sort of repercussion.</p>
<p>This is why we are having the backlash of anxiety, doubt, frustration, desperation and even depression.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, so many of us tilt more to the left side of fear.  And like I said earlier we can manifest from this energy, but it takes a ton of energy to do so and when we do manifest from this energy it has worn us out so much that we wonder if it was all “worth it.”</p>
<p>So how do we experience our joyous feelings and come back to joy where we can let go of the attachment and thus release resistance to our manifestations?</p>
<p>Well, come back to this blog often and I will touch upon more  answers and ideas in the future.  In fact my business partner and good friend Randy Shaw and I are in the midst of putting together a 4 cd set that will more thoroughly explain this concept, including practical exercises that will help you manifest through peace!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-family: Verdana;">I wanted to make sure you were aware of some important information about a new  product recently approved by the FDA called Truvia.</span><br style="font-family: Verdana;" /><br style="font-family: Verdana;" /><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Although Stevia is a harmless plant that actually  has some notable health advantages and is available in a dozen countries  including Japan, Brazil and China, it can only be sold in the U.S. as a dietary  supplement. The FDA and the food industry&#8217;s success in banning this harmless  plant as a sweetener while it allows toxic artificial sweeteners like aspartame  and sucralose to be freely available on the market is questionable to say the  least. </span><br style="font-family: Verdana;" /><br style="font-family: Verdana;" /><span style="font-family: Verdana;">However, as the  public becomes increasingly educated their demand for Stevia as a safe  alternative is growing and this has caught the attention of big business.  Unfortunately for them, Stevia is a natural product and in order for them to  create a patent they need to somehow isolate a portion of the plant or alter it  in some way so that it is not in it&#8217;s natural state. In this case particular  case, the manufacturers of Truvia have isolated the sweet part of the plant. In  theory this may sound like a good idea, but this will drastically effect the way  it is metabolized in our systems. </span><br style="font-family: Verdana;" /><br style="font-family: Verdana;" /><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Remember,  whole-complete foods are whole for a reason; they work in sync with the needs of  our body as the perfect fuel. <p>Emily: &#8220;Hi, how are you doing?&#8221;</p>
<p>Client: &#8220;I&#8217;m doing OK. 5cms open. Should I walk around or should I try to relax?&#8221;</p>
<p>Emily: &#8220;Relax! Any position, it doesn&#8217;t matter. And breathe with the surges.&#8221;</p>
<p>Client: &#8220;Ok, yah, breathing does make the surges more tolerable.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;And much more effective. At least 5 times more effective. It&#8217;s going to help us a lot! I&#8217;m coming to the hospital now.&#8221;</p>
<p>When I heard the word &#8220;tolerable&#8221;, as a HypnoBirthing doula, I knew it was time for me to run to the hospital to help her. So that the surges (contraction) become comfortable and powerful, rather than tolerable. 5 mins later I was in my car, on the way to the hospital. Realizing this is the first birth I&#8217;m attending since getting the regression hypnosis training from Matt and Randy, since learning so much about observing, respecting and acknowledging the body/subconscious mind. &#8220;How about I apply what I use in sessions in birthing? Acknowledging all feelings?&#8221;, I thought to myself. I had always been using relaxation techniques to help laboring moms, it works wonderfully for many moms, but not everyone. Not everyone CAN relax during labor. How about we follow the feelings/sensations this time? How about we respect those feelings/sensations?</p>
<p>She was in the bathroom when I walked in, I took out the electrical candles, and was trying to set up a cozier and more intimate environment. There walks out of her, saying hi to me and giving me a hug when I know there is no time to say hi or hug me. There comes a surge, she is squeezing her eyebrows and moaning. Touching her shoulders, I said &#8220;breathe.&#8221; The surge is gone now, noticing her shoulders are tense, I gave her a little rub.</p>
<p>She laid down on the bed. There comes another surge, her body seems tense, uncomfortable. &#8220;Keep on breathing, your baby needs all the oxygen you can get. Let the outside world be just that, the outside world. Notice that sensation, feeling. Whatever it is, even if it feels uncomfortable, acknowledge it, for helping your body and your baby.&#8221; She&#8217;s breathing better. Here comes another surge, she squeezed my hand. &#8220;Open your palms so that the oxygen flows even better to your baby. Let your jaw stay loose.&#8221; Resting. &#8220;Let your shoulders rest for a moment. And if you can, stretch your arms to keep them loose, stretch your legs if you can.&#8221; Here comes another one. &#8220;Keep going inside. Become a tiny being, going inside, look for that little one, notice her heartbeat, maybe her chubby cheeks..&#8221;</p>
<p>She felt the pressure. She&#8217;s a little scared, squeezing my hand tightly. &#8220;Open your palms, open your heart. Give your body and your baby permission to work. Open your body, like a rosebud, one petal at a time, let your baby come.&#8221; People talking, trying to set her up for pushing. I murmured in her ears, &#8220;You don&#8217;t need to tend to anything, anybody, but your body, your baby. Stay inside, open your body, open your heart, let your baby come.&#8221; She bursted out: &#8220;She&#8217;s coming out!&#8221; &#8220;Breathing your loving energy to your baby, breathe it down, down, and down.&#8221; &#8220;Oh my god!&#8221; She moans. &#8220;Oh yes, that&#8217;s it! That&#8217;s what it takes, releasing the energy&#8221; I thought in my mind. And I told her: &#8220;She&#8217;s coming. She&#8217;s coming. Tell your baby that everyone is ready whenever she&#8217;s ready. &#8221; This dear mom nodded her head. Four moans later, before anyone was ready to coach her to push, there comes a head!! Full of hairs!! I bursted into tears. Grandma ran all the way to the other side of the room, bursting into tears.</p>
<p>She is laying on her chest, so peaceful, so content. Looking at mom with her beautiful dark eyes. Mom unbelieveably beautiful, looking at her, holding her little fingers. Enjoying those first moments together, outside the womb.</p>
<p>Dad said: &#8220;So peaceful, it&#8217;s just like your said about other hypnobirthing babies!&#8221; And I captured this picture in my mind, intend to keep it forever.</p>
<p>Mom told me: &#8220;What a difference it made, from going around and tending to things, to laying down, going inside! I felt everyone of her movements. Turning her head, her shoulders. She coming out, and sliding back in. I felt everything!&#8221; Her eyes sparkling, filled with love and amazement. I was looking into her eyes, felt all the love and amazement, and a little envy. &#8220;Oh, you make me almost want to experience birth again!&#8221; I said. &#8220;When you said ignore everyone, I did. I just kept going inside and my body did it. It wasn&#8217;t me! It was my body who pushed her out on it&#8217;s own! Oh, when our head doesn&#8217;t get in the way. It was my body!&#8221; &#8220;Yes,&#8221; I said, &#8220;your body works. Our body works.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Your were amazing. You make a lot of moms ashamed.&#8221; said the doctor. Ashamed, why should they? We only thought our body needed help from outside. Forgetting about the internal guidance that has always been there, that has stood the test of time. Our amazing body.</p>
<p>I got home, with a big smile on my face. Hubby said: &#8220;so quick? How long were you there?&#8221; &#8220;2 hrs. And I spent 1 hr enjoying the baby.&#8221; Love this work! Love this life!<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have to admit that I used to be addicted to these things - Drinking an average of about 3 cans of diet soda a day.  But I always knew deep down inside that there was just something about it that my body rejected.</p>
<p>Sure enough, I started to get headaches on a daily basis which really puzzled me. Why?  Because (other then the soda) I took care of myself in every other way.  I trained with weights and did cardio, furthermore, I took care of myself emotionally through the use of hypnosis to help me relax and release deep seated emotions that have been tied to my past.</p>
<p>Also, on the spiritual end I meditated and focused on my connection to God everyday.</p>
<p>So it felt bizarre to me that I would get these headaches.  Well, not really.   After all, I always knew that when I drank the diet sodas there was just something so completely unnatural about it that it baffled my body, not my consciousness.</p>
<p>One day, I could no longer take the headaches and committed to break the trance of drinking diet sodas and stopped.</p>
<p>It was hard at first.  Especially the first few days as my head would feel like it was going to split open from the withdrawal, but I got through it and now if I even take a sip of a diet soda, I can literally taste the chemicals on every taste bud on my tongue.</p>
<p>I now wonder how I ever slipped into that addiction in the first place because I remember having my first taste of a diet soda and thinking &#8220;YUCK, I&#8217;ll never drink this.&#8221; But I let the &#8220;experts&#8221; at that time over ride my natural instinct and convince me that diet sodas were ok.  Hek, it was a way to spare calories, right?</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Below is a case study of a client I worked with.  It&#8217;s a perfect example of how deeply held perceptions in the subconscious mind can over ride logical reasoning in the conscious mind.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Lady in her early 30s comes to my office (By the way, if you don&#8217;t already know, in the Hypnosis world I&#8217;m known for specializing  in regression hypnosis to find the root subconsicous cause).</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">
<p style="text-align: left;">She says (paraphrasing) &#8220;Matt, I don&#8217;t get it.  I&#8217;m very accomplished in everything I do but there&#8217;s one part of my life that I just don&#8217;t get.  I want a LOVING relationship but all my relationships end up abusively whether mentally or physically.&#8221;</p>
<p>Long story short &#8230; We regress her to moments in her life and find her at an event of 4 years of age where dad is trying to teach her how to tell time with one of those round clocks &#8230; and every time she would get it wrong, he would beat her.</p>
<p>Now, this in and of itself is bad enough, but what happened next was even worse.  But before I go there, let me give you a little diddy about the subconscious mind (SM).</p>
<p>For the subconscious mind the word security is not what is right or wrong, good or bad, or what even feels good or bad - rather security for the SM is what&#8217;s familiar and our SMs like to go back to what&#8217;s familiar, even if it&#8217;s bad for us.</p>
<p>Also, between the ages of 0-5 (some say 0-12)psychologists tell us that we learn more in that time frame then the rest of our lives put together! So after 5 years of age we&#8217;re either resonating with the perceptions we&#8217;ve already built up or desperately trying to fight against them.</p>
<p>More technical stuff later, but now back to my case study.</p>
<p>Soooo, what was so bad that my client&#8217;s father did to her after beating her for getting the answer wrong?  He would then force her to say &#8220;Thank you dad for loving me&#8221;</p>
<p>Ok, I lied, back to more technical stuff and I&#8217;ll go back to the case study :).  Bear with me, this will all come together.</p>
<p>One of the ways the SM works is by association, not logic.  Logic is in the conscious mind.</p>
<p>With that being said, let me take it back to the beginning of my story&#8230; as an adult my client kept saying to herself &#8220;I want a loving relationship&#8221; &#8230; well, that&#8217;s what her logical conscious mind was saying.</p>
<p>However, what was her subconscious mind remembering?  Back to the events when Dad would beat her and maker her say &#8220;Thank you Dad for LOVING me&#8221;</p>
<p>Although, she very much wanted a loving (real love anyhow) relationship - she even wrote down a list of everything she wanted in a man and even worked on affirmations for it- her subconscious mind assoiciated the word &#8220;love&#8221; with those times dad would beat her.</p>
<p>Remember what dad made her say after he would beat her &#8220;Thank you dad for LOVING me.&#8221;  At 4 years of age that idea of love was already getting embedded in her subconscious mind and becoming familiar as she grew up.</p>
<p>In it&#8217;s most basic essence her SM mind wrapped a &#8220;protective covering&#8221; around the idea of her perceptional association to love at an early age and only placed her in scenes that would reinforce her deep perceptional ideas of what love is.</p>
<p>Furthermore, this was also re-inforced simply cause her dad was her dad, and what are dads suppose to be representative of?  Love.</p>
<p>Anyhow, we moved her through those moments and eventually healed the old emotional beliefs she had.  What a wonderful thing it is for me to see that AHA moment in clients when the release comes.  You can literally feel the shift in the room.</p>
<p>The truth of the matter is, if we could change everything thing through the conscious logical mind, we&#8217;d be happy all the time. But in this time of human evolution we still have to move through old baggage that may have been instilled in side of us for years &#8230; perhaps even lifetimes, if you have those beliefs.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">In future blogs, I will go more deeply into the powers of the subconscious and how to break the patterns that seemed so ingrained&#8230; but for now, remember, you came into this world with real love but with certain patterns of your life, you simply just forget how powerful that love you came into this world with, really is.</p>

<div>Matt here has asked me to guest post on his blog, and I&#8217;m honored!  I have  decided that in keeping with the theme of his blog, I&#8217;d explore more of the mind  to body connection involved in losing weight.  After all, it all begins in the  mind!</div>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br />
So, can you really  think yourself thin?  Well, you know the saying &#8220;if you think it, you can do  it&#8221;.  That definitely applies to weight loss.</span></p>
<p>Making any radical change  in your mind and body absolutely requires first changing the way you think.   However, changing the way you think is not as easy as it sounds.  If it was,  we&#8217;d all be successful, healthy, rich, in a relationship with the perfect  person, and fulfilling all of our dreams.  But you know this is not the case for  the majority.</p>
<p>So, why is is so hard to change the way we think?  Well,  for one thing, as you go through life, you tend to follow and practice the same  habits repeatedly, each person settling into the patterns most comfortable and  efficient for them.<br />
These patterns tend to get hard wired into our brains,  and it becomes second nature to just follow those same old thoughts and  processes day after day and year after year.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve decided that  you&#8217;re overweight because of outside influences such as family, environment,  stress, friends, genetics, etc, and you never make a definite stand to change  your belief system as far as that is concerned, then guess what?  You will  probably always be overweight.  Because, for the most part, those things are not  changeable.  Your family will always be your family.  Stress will always be  somewhere in your life.  You can&#8217;t change your genes.  So, the only thing that  you can change in that equation is the way you think about those  things.</p>
<p>My family, for the most part, is on the large side.  As all of my  cousins, aunts and uncles aged, they packed on the pounds and decided to just  accept it.  I go to visit them, and they marvel at how &#8220;skinny&#8221; I am, as if it&#8217;s  a major miracle.  Well, first of all, I&#8217;m not skinny&#8230;I&#8217;m at a weight  proportionate to my height and since I exercise, I stay toned. I also try to  control my eating habits, opting to eat healthy when I can. It&#8217;s no miracle.   But no matter how much I try to share what I&#8217;ve learned about a healthy  lifestyle and eating habits, they just don&#8217;t buy into it.  As a result, they  stay overweight, and many have begun to suffer health problems because of it.   You would think getting diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure would  make them change their ways immediately, but they have decided that this is just  the way it is.<br />
The truth is, they are afraid of stepping out of their comfort  zones and breaking those old thinking patterns that help to keep them  unhealthy.  It&#8217;s all in their minds that they can&#8217;t change.  And, to tell the  truth, they&#8217;ve never tried.</p>
<p>Now, I could choose to say, &#8220;well, obesity  runs in my family.  Just look, we&#8217;re all big.&#8221;  Hell, that would be easy.  It&#8217;s  more fun, too.  You get to eat unlimited cheeseburgers, fries, cake, peach  cobbler and drink back to back sodas and beer without giving it a thought.  But  in the end, when you&#8217;re having to take insulin daily, or your joints are hurting  and you have no energy to do anything else except sit on the couch and eat some  more, it&#8217;s not that much fun at all.</p>
<p>I decided early on to change the way  I thought about food, my body and my life.<br />
It was not easy!  It&#8217;s still not  on certain days.  But the first thing I had to change was how I think about food  and exercise.  Food no longer became comfort, entertainment or a way to pass the  time.  Exercise became play time.  That little formula works for me.</p>
<p>If  you find that changing your mindset is difficult when it comes to trying to lose  weight, then start developing a few of these little habits to help you  along:</p>
<p>Set a concrete goal, something tangible</p>
<p>An event that&#8217;s  coming up, like a wedding, a vacation, or a reunion where you know you will want  to be looking and feeling your best is a good one.  Decide what you&#8217;re going to  wear to this event and how you want to look in it.  Put a clear picture of that  in your mind.  If you can find a picture of the outfit(s) or something similar  in a magazine, cut it out and paste it right on your refrigerator or bathroom  wall, right next to the mirror.  That way you are constantly reminded of what  you should be doing to achieve that goal.</p>
<p>Sign up for an athletic event  and start training for it. Although you might not be in shape at the moment,  knowing that you will need to be ready by the time the event rolls around should  be the incentive you need to get you moving and working out.</p>
<p>Start  keeping a journal</p>
<p>Writing down your goals, your thoughts and the things  you need to be doing will help you to keep those things front and center in your  mind.  If you have a problem with snacking and impulse eating, keeping a food  diary will give you more of a concrete idea of how much you actually are eating  in a day, and will make you more accountable for what you put on your plate and  in your mouth.  You will see that within time, you&#8217;ll not only start to eat  less, but also healthier.</p>
<p>Battle back against that little voice in your  head.</p>
<p>You know the voice.  The one that tells you that you need to eat a  certain thing right now,  or that tells you you&#8217;re hungry when you&#8217;re really  not.  The one that tells you that you&#8217;ll feel better if you just have this one  thing.  And let&#8217;s not forget the voice that tells you you&#8217;re too tired to  exercise.  Smack that voice right down, and replace it with another one.  One  that challenges all those negative little thoughts and helps you to do the right  thing.</p>
<p>Surround yourself with people that are achieving the things you  want to achieve</p>
<p>Sometimes you just need to make some new friends!  If  your family is not supportive, and your friends are the type that don&#8217;t  exercise, and only want to go out to eat, then you need to start looking around  for some new people to add to your life.<br />
That old saying &#8216;birds of a feather&#8217;  is true.  If you start to hang with folks that work out, participate in active  events and eat healthier, you&#8217;ll find yourself doing the same. It works if you  work it!</p>
<p>So, in a nutshell, those are but a few things you can do to  change your thinking when it comes to weight loss and living a healthier  lifestyle.  It really does begin in the mind, and once you learn to change your  mind, you can change just about anything!  If you find it overwhelming to try to  do all at once, just pick one of the things I suggested and start there.  Then  you can begin to build on that one thing, and pretty soon, the others  follow.<br />
Remember; as long as you have life and breath, nothing is  impossible!</p>

<p>As you may know by  now, our own Rick Schaff has been an insider in the fitness industry for a long while now.  He&#8217;s seen some amazing manipulations of health and fitness advertising and in the following video clip you will see Rick talk about one of the common scams played out in the health and fitness industry.</p>
