New sugar substitute approved by the FDA: Truvia

I wanted to make sure you were aware of some important information about a new product recently approved by the FDA called Truvia.

Although Stevia is a harmless plant that actually has some notable health advantages and is available in a dozen countries including Japan, Brazil and China, it can only be sold in the U.S. as a dietary supplement. The FDA and the food industry’s success in banning this harmless plant as a sweetener while it allows toxic artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose to be freely available on the market is questionable to say the least.

However, as the public becomes increasingly educated their demand for Stevia as a safe alternative is growing and this has caught the attention of big business. Unfortunately for them, Stevia is a natural product and in order for them to create a patent they need to somehow isolate a portion of the plant or alter it in some way so that it is not in it’s natural state. In this case particular case, the manufacturers of Truvia have isolated the sweet part of the plant. In theory this may sound like a good idea, but this will drastically effect the way it is metabolized in our systems.

Remember, whole-complete foods are whole for a reason; they work in sync with the needs of our body as the perfect fuel. Whether you are a creationalist or an evolutionist our food was either perfectly designed or perfectly evolved over millions of years to give us exactly what we need.  Leave it up to our government agencies to completely mess up a relatively safe and natural plant and turn it into something they can alter, patent and sell.

What’s the Bottom Line?
Truvia will be popping up everywhere soon, and will most likely be found alongside of some of the other “healthy” artificial sweeteners the FDA and the Food industry heavily promote.  My suggestion is to avoid it and choose a whole-leave Stevia “supplement” instead.

Sincerely,
Rick Schaff

  1. WHAT ARE THE FREAKING ADVANTAGES!!!!!

  2. Hi shelby - I assume your referring to the advantages of stevia over artificial sweeteners. Here are a few -

Stevia is natural, and not a heavily processed product like all artificial sweeteners are. Many believe, as do I, that the chemicals in artificial sweeteners interfere with many of the body’s metabolic processes and communication pathways. Additionally, many people also suffer bad reactions from the use of artificial sweeteners as opposed to natural products like stevia.

As a result, many healthcare professionals believe these extra-terrestrial chemicals can actually make you gain more weight over time and lead to sickness.

  3. I’ve been using Stevia for years in my coffee and oatmeal. It’s too bad Frutiva is not as good as the real stuff because I was pretty excited when I saw the commercial the other day. I wonder how many diseases would be cured if dietary supplements were studied more extensively…but they aren’t because supplements can’t be patented.
